Freedom’s just another word for nothing left to lose, Kris Kristofferson sang. Is it a greater freedom when you behave like you’ve nothing left to lose when in fact you do? ‘Freedom’ is one of those word the true meaning of which is opaque to most, and so it’s mostly misused. This is something it has in common with the word ‘genius’.
The coming together of Kim Gordon and Ikue Mori easily qualifies as a supergroup. Their combined history takes in Sonic Youth, DNA, Ciccone Youth, Death Ambient, Free Kitten, Hemophiliac, Electric Masada… If you’ve ever been interested in anything a little noisier, more radical and free’er in your life, at least a few of those names ought to check your boxes.
