Described as the "ultimate mix tape", All Tomorrow's Parties is a boutique festival that goes against the grain of the larger, more commercial music festivals - with quality and customer experience coming first - presenting award winning sound and acclaimed organisation.
Each new All Tomorrow's Parties event invites an artist or band to handpick their favourite performers to play at the festival. In 2009 ATP presented its inaugural Australian series of events headlined & curated by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds at Mt Buller Victoria, Cockatoo Island Sydney and Riverstage Brisbane to widespread critical acclaim.

After years of fan emails and letters, ATP will return in February 2013 for a very special I'll Be Your Mirror event in Melbourne. Acting as sister events to the ATP Festivals which usually take place in holiday resorts, I'll Be Your Mirror is a series of artist curated music, film and art events taking place in cities worldwide, launched by ATP in 2011. IBYM is ATP without the accommodation aspect and is named after the b-side to The Velvet Underground's original All Tomorrow's Parties 7" single.
Line-Up:
Joining us as guest co-curators for IBYM are Australian natives THE DRONES. The band have released a number of albums on the ATP Recordings label, and it gives us great pride and pleasure to ask them to co-curate this very special event - we consider them to be one of the country's greatest ever bands and very worthy ATP curators.
Winners of Rolling Stone Magazine’s Best Live Act in 2010, The Drones last studio release Havilah (2010) won two AIR Awards for Best Independent Album and Independent Artist Of The Year, received multiple ARIA nominations, and had the honour of winning Triple J Magazines peer voted poll for Greatest Australian Songs Of All Time, where fellow songwriters voted Shark Fin Blues in at #1.
Adding to the excitement of the return of ATP to Australia is the announcement of some of our incredible line-up, which will span genres and continents in its selection of musical delicacies. This will be the only Australian ATP event with this line up in 2013. Confirmed so far alongside The Drones are:
my bloody valentine (UK) will make their first Australasian visit in over 20 years. ATP were responsible for the band's live return back in 2008, which won gig of the year in Time Out London and is cemented in live show folklore as one of the greatest gigs of modern times. The band last played Australia on the Loveless tour in 1991 - ATP are beyond excited to present Australian fans with the chance to experience my bloody valentine at their full volume and power headlining the Saturday night.
Godspeed You! Black Emperor (Canada) - one of the most influential post-rock groups of all time reformed for ATP in December 2010 after a 7 year hiatus - this will be their first ever Australasian visit.
The rumours that bubbled up last month can now be confirmed as true, Beasts Of Bourbon (Australia) will be playing in Melbourne this February- ATP are very excited to present the original line-up of the legendary Beasts Of Bourbon, reforming for this event at the request of The Drones. Featuring Tex Perkins, Kim Salmon, Boris Sudjovic, Spencer P Jones and James Baker.
Swans (USA) - Following their incredible comeback album My Father Will Guide Me Up A Rope To The Sky and it's hugely acclaimed live shows, Swans return with new double album The Seer this August, and return to Australia for ATP in February.
Einstuerzende Neubauten's (Germany) agenda can be summed up as noise-therapy, in actuality, however they always were and will be exceedingly complex. The staunchly independent post-punk outfit have financed their LP releases via subscription allowing them to create in peace. This is your chance to see one of the greatest live groups of the past 30 years, with a rare Australian show (their first since 1991) from one of Europe's most incomparable avant-garde groups.
Michael Morley, Bruce Russell and Robbie Yeats' cult group The Dead C (New Zealand) have continually made the most crushing, expansive and intelligent rock noise ever to be heard. Just a glance at their peers who are fans (Yo La Tengo, Sonic Youth, Comets On Fire, Black Dice) shows the league in which they play.
Melbourne-via-London's HTRK (Australia) sound like "a comedown, a bad trip, a hip romance" 808 beats, evocative bass lines, texture on texture. Relocating to Europe in 2006, they drew critical acclaim from the brutal British music press, people say they sounds like Suicide and Swans, but more beautiful.
'Ex Tropical' is the debut album by Jarrod Quarrell AKA Lost Animal (Australia), the LP exudes everything that makes for a great album; heart, soul, flesh and blood, sensuality and reflection. Since its release September 2011, it has received significant praise including: Beat Magazines Album of 2011 and was one of Mess & Noise Top 10 albums of 2011.
Thee Oh Sees (USA) - The latest incarnation of songwriter, singer, and guitarist John Dwyer's ever-evolving pop-folk psychedelic group. Sounding a bit like the Mamas & the Papas run through a seriously bent garage blender.
Sleepy Sun (USA) - Sleepy Sun's miles, months, and days in the van are a tangible presence in Spine Hits, an LP of whimsy, restlessness, and urgency that leaps nimbly from landscape to landscape with ease, irreverence, and a catch-em-before-they-ain't changeling nature. Recorded under the big skies of the California high desert, the jams on Spine Hits are alternatingly precision whittled and moodily muscular.
They coast through verse, chorus and coda like a tropical cyclone, Harmony (Australia) are a mongrel concoction of gallows blues and balladry, but offset by a glorious three part gospel vocal ensemble, that lifts the songs out of the dark and into thrilling, yet haunting territory.
Standish/Carlyon (Australia/UK) - exist bi-hemispherically with each member contributing from their respective cities, London and Melbourne. Conrad Standish on bass guitar and vocals, and Tom Carlyon on guitar and electronics (both ex-Devastations). Conjuring the pop music from the soundtrack to the movie that you wish existed, with dubbed, reverberated basslines, ghostly falsetto, hallucinatory guitar and minimal electronics.
Unique electric guitarist and composer Cam Butler & The Shadows Of Love (Australia), is a lover of the sound of strings, he has composed epic music for string quartets, string orchestras, singers and bands. Rather than relying on fx, Cam uses plectrums, his fingers, found objects, brushes, capos and tunings to fashion his soulful, 21st century guitar music to create an instantly recognisable sound.

EVENT INFORMATION:
Date: The festival takes place on two days - Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th February, 2013. The event starts at midday on Saturday and Sunday until late with around 30 acts set to play live across the weekend.
Location: Another unique aspect of ATP’s I’ll Be Your Mirror is the location, offering both indoor and outdoor space just a stones throw from the CBD. The Westgate Entertainment Centre and Grand Star Receptions - two venues in one complex in Altona - just 13km away from the centre of Melbourne. There will be two stages, a cinema, art exhibition and an amazing food court.
Tickets: Tickets are priced at $250 (+ booking fee) for a two day pass or $135 (+ booking fee) for a single day pass and are On Sale Via This Link
Transport: There will be a shuttle bus operating from Newport Station to the venue during festival opening hours. You can catch a train to Newport Station from Flinders Street, Southern Cross, North Melbourne, South Kensington, Footscray, Seddon, Yarraville, Spotswood and Williamstown. We will be running buses from the CBD you can pre-book closer to the event and there is also limited on-site parking available at the venue. A taxi for 4 people from the CBD will cost around $35 - $40, $38 from St Kilda and around $42 from Fitzroy.

Artwork:
The amazing artwork for IBYM Melbourne is by acclaimed artist Camille Rose Garcia.
Camille Rose Garcia was born in 1970 in Los Angeles, California, The child of a Mexican activist filmmaker father and a muralist/painter mother, she apprenticed at age 14 working on murals with her mother while growing up in the generic suburbs of Orange County, visiting Disneyland and going to punk shows with the other disenchanted youth of that era. Garcia’s layered, broken narrative paintings of wasteland fairy tales are influenced by William Burroughs’ cut-up writings and surrealist film, as well as vintage Disney and Fleischer cartoons, acting as critical commentaries on the failures of capitalist utopias, blending nostalgic pop culture references with a satirical slant on modern society. Her work has been displayed internationally and featured in numerous magazines including Juxtapoz, Rolling Stone, and Modern Painter, and is included in the collections of the Los Angeles County Museum as well as the San Jose Museum of Art, which held a retrospective of her work, Tragic Kingdom, in 2007.

All Tomorrow's Parties has been promoting festivals and concerts throughout the world for over ten years. It was founded in the wake of Belle and Sebastian’s Bowlie Weekender, with Mogwai curating in the unusual setting of Pontins Holiday Camp, Camber Sands, UK.
