Name Of Artist: CSS
Hometown: São Paulo
Year Formed: 2003
Bio: CSS return with their incredible fourth studio album ‘Planta’ which will be released in the UK on June 10th on SQE Music. The album is produced by TV On The Radio’s David Sitek (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Scarlet Johansson, Santigold) and features a collaboration with Rancid’s Tim Armstrong on the first single to be taken from the album ‘Hangover’, which will be released this May.
Speaking about the new album lead singer Lovefoxxx said, “’Planta’ was written and recorded in LA. We had a lot of fun doing it and met some incredible people in the process. Our first single ‘Hangover’ is like summer in space for me. We can’t wait for people to hear the album”!
CSS was formed amidst the underground Sao Paulo music scene in 2003. In 2006 they released their debut album ‘Cansei de ser Sexy’ which was later followed by their second studio album ‘Donkey’ in 2008. ‘La Liberacion’ was released in 2010.
CSS are Lovefoxxx, Luiza Sa, Ana Rezende and Carolina Parra.
Do your best to describe the sound of your band in one sentence:
Dancy-pop-rock
What are the most recent activities of your band?
Recording a new album that should be out before the summer in 2013.
How excited are you to play this event?
Like Oprah's audience when each person got a car
Do you have a connection with TV On The Radio / an idea why you were chosen to play?
We love David Sitek! Just finished a record with him as a producer BUT I think we were chosen because they actually like our show.
Which of your releases do you feel ATP attendees should check out first?
I think it doesn't make a difference, we have 3 records out and they're all multi faceted. They can just pick up whatever one and go from there.
Is there one of your tracks you think specifically represents you best?
That's a very hard thing to answer but maybe "Let's Make Love and Listen to Death From Above."
Are there any other currently confirmed bands you're excited about seeing?
Oh my god, yes, so many! De La Soul, Spank Rock always so amazing, The Oh Sees, Celebration, Tv on The Radio itself..
If you were curating, name three bands you'd want to play your event...
Only 3?
Madonna! (just kidding)
The Breeders
Maybe it would be amazing to have the The Runaways reunite
Tom Tom Club
If you could pick one record release in the last year which would you recommend?
Chairlift - Something
The whole band was listening to this album so much last year.
What have your previous experiences at ATP been like? Any favourite memories?
We absolutely love ATP. We performed before and the whole thing was a lot of fun. From staying there and having a special tv programming and funny different events like Kelly Deal teaching you how to knit to watching other amazing people perform in such a peer friendly environment to the cutest fans. I remember someone filming our show with a super 8 camera! I wish we got to go every year.
