Congratulations are again in order for The Drones, who on Sunday, won two AIR Awards, for Best Independent Album, for their 4th studio release ‘Havilah’ and Independent Artist Of The Year. These gongs follow this months J Mag’s peer voted poll for Greatest Australian Songs Of All Time, where fellow songwriters voted Shark Fin Blues in at # 1.
The band have also been nominated for 3 ARIA awards this year, in the following categories:
Best Group
Best Rock Album
Best Independent Release
These are the first ARIA nominations for The Drones, who in the last year have been performing to sold-out venues and receiving critical acclaim both in Australia and around the world.
Even though they have just recently landed on home soil, in December they will jump on another long haul flight back to the UK to join the likes of Melvins, Mudhoney, The Dirty Three, Deerholf and many more to help celebrate 10 years of ATP festivals, among a family in which they are well entrenched.
2009 has been a jam packed year for the band with local and international touring, rave reviews and award nominations and praise galore. Over the next few months, The Drones will be laying low and preparing for their next studio album and have also accepted an invitation to play at ATP 2010, that is being curated by Pavement.
