Derrick Brown, former paratrooper for the 82nd Airborne, gondolier, magician, and fired weatherman, now travels the world and performs his written work. From Long Beach CA, he lives on a boat called the Sea Section. He has been hailed as the new American Kerouac. He has also been hailed as having ugly feet.
Derrick is the first American Poet to perform at the Glastonbury festival and La Sorbonne in Paris. He has opened for Cold War Kids, The White Stripes and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. His work has been featured in books with Jeff Tweedy of Wilco, Viggo Mortensen, Jeff Buckley and Jim Carrol. Derrick recorded with indie rocker Richard Swift and performs in a band called Night Reports.
As one of the most original and well-traveled writer/performers in the country, Derrick Brown has gained a cult following for his poetry performances (at over 1400 venues) all over the U.S. and through Europe including The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. A poetic terrorism group has taken to sticking and tagging his metaphors across the globe.
Known for a moving show that incorporates strange comedy, dark romance, non-lame spoken word, minimalist music, and even sound fx, Brown is unique for being an outstanding performer but is foremost an author.
