george hurley and mike watt as a duet doing minutemen is just that,
george hurley and mike watt of the minutemen doing songs they did when they were w/d. boon from 1980 to 1985. minutemen were started by d. boon and mike watt but original drummer frank tonche lasted only two gigs. george hurley came to the rescue (boon and watt had already played w/him in the reactionaries, 1978 to 1979) and in august 1980 they recorded their first record "paranoid time" for sst records. many gigs and more recordings followed including what the minutemen are most known for, "double nickels on the dime" in 1984. the 2005 documentary "we jam econo" investigates the minutemen through the eyes of two men too young to see them, keith scheiron and tim irwin by interviews w/hurley and boon as well as contemporaries of the band who where there. playing as a duet these days seems the only thing appropriate since d. boon (killed in a 1985 automobile accident) is big time irreplaceable.
