Artist Interview: Red Fang (playing Nightmare Before Christmas curated by Shellac)

Wednesday 1st August, 2012

Today we post the first of a new series of mini interviews of artists performing at future ATP festivals. We'll be sending out a short group of questions to every artist/band picked to play and posting all of the answers we get back. The following were kindly answered by Aaron Beam.

Name Of Band: Red Fang

Hometown: Portland, Oregon

Year Formed: 2005

Bio: Red Fang is the latest effort from long time bros and collaborators Bryan Giles (Last of the Juanitas, Party Time), Aaron Beam (Dark Forces, Lachrymator), David Sullivan (Party Time, facedowninshit, Shiny Beast) and John Sherman (Party Time, Bad Wizard, Trumans Water, All Night). The four have boiled down their disparate sounds to create the ONLY sound: Red Fang.

What are the most recent activities of your band?

Spending a day at the Szecheny public baths in Budapest, Hungary.

How excited are you to play this event?

I am not sure there is a scale that accurately measures the amount of excitement!

Do you have a connection with Shellac / an idea why you were chosen to play?

Bob and I have been friends for many years. Also, the whole band came to see us play at the Kuma's Burger 5th anniversary party, which is just down the block from Electrical Audio.

Are there any other currently confirmed bands you're excited about seeing?

I have seen Shellac and Mission of Burma many times, and am always excited to see them, but I have never seen Wire, so they are at the top of my list.

If you were curating, name three bands you'd want to play your event...

Unwound (REUNION!!!)
Federation X
YOB

If you could pick one record released in the last year to recommend to ATP attendees which would you choose?

Hungry Ghost (Facebook). It is being released TODAY as a matter of fact.
